regret

I had a regret once, and the very person that helped me abolish it has now given me another to replace it with.
Once again I am reminded of that gut-renching feeling that lingerers in the background and plagues your mind like a mosquito in the dark.

The only possible consolation for this is that what ever mistake you made that led to a regret is that you can learn from your actions and move on......
....but not with this one I can see myself making this mistake again and again.

AND THAT IS MY CURSE!

"to remember with distress or longing," is one of regrets explanations...

not all regrets are bad
some tell us about who we are
and remind us of maybe, who we once were.
if once we do something that has us regret in our lives - we may soon find that those actions years ahead no longer concern us.. that it self allows you to measure your growth (as you mentioned) how well you have learned from your past etc..

but sometimes regrets are a barrier.
they stop us from accepting what may actually be a reality... sometimes we use regrets to continue living in this illusion of dunya and to delude ourselves with our own dreams and aspirations...

the truth is, there is an answer and i believe there is always a way. this way may only be open to sight once a regret has been felt.. that churning feeling in ones stomach...

its the same as a forest... all trees are in competition for air and minerals... then they compete in reproducing... with seeds flying through the wind and leaves floating the ground... and just at one point... it may take a forest fire to burn it all down so that the new seeds have a chance... regrets allow us in fact to continue safely...

if to continue safely on a path open to you know, due to a regret is a curse for some, then so be it.

the only regret one should ever have in reality, is not accepting ones faults...

But what good is accepting your faults if you can't flip them, if regret is the prior form then what is it called once you accept it but can do nothing about it?

reality is we base our concepts on al Islam and your interchanging the terms. i need to clarify, the only regret worth having is regret of commiting some act that displeases Allah swt. other than that don't worry a decision made is a decision made and only on that day when all shall be lined up will you know the reality of your actions. before that is just shaytaan playing with you. we accept that Allah swt will protect us in our decisions in life...
